History
Rowallan Castle Golf Club, centuries in the making...
The original Rowallan Castle dates back to the 13th Century, the era of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
The estate was birth place of Elizabeth Muir, mother of Robert II, the first Stewart King of Scotland. The Rowallan Estate was laid out in its existing form by Mungo Mure in 1513, and was home to the Campbells of Loudoun from c.1690 until the late 19th Century, when the "new" Rowallan Castle was added to the estate.
The estate was bought back by Niall and Louise Campbell twenty three years ago – Niall's ancestors were the Campbells of Loudoun - and Niall started the planning process to develop the potential of the Rowallan Castle estate, and to restore the original castle.
Campbell of Rowallan
In 2008 Niall Campbell was granted Arms by Lord Lyon, after he was able to prove out his direct ancestry from both the Loudoun Campbell's and Rowallan Mure's, bringing together once again the Mure Campbells of Rowallan.
The Coat of Arms has the main Loudoun gyronny of eight in red and cream and includes the Campbell Boars head set upon the gold stars of the Mures under the motto of "Non Obliviscar" - "We will not forget"
